As an official partner for Food Waste Prevention Week (FWPW) this year, Careit is joining forces with more than 700 public and private organizations from April 7 through 13 to spread awareness and support the mission of reducing food waste in our homes, workplaces and local communities.
See Why Food Waste Prevention Matters
Up to 38% of all food produced in the United States goes uneaten, causing significant economic, environmental, and social repercussions. Ending food loss and waste requires purposeful action, and Food Waste Prevention Week aligns with the EPA, USDA, and FDA’s “Winning on Reducing Food Waste” initiative, which aims to cut food waste by 50% by 2030.
Benefits of preventing food waste include:
- More Money in Your Pocket: A family of four can save between $1866-$3000+ per year by reducing wasted food.
- Conserved Resources: Wasted food means wasted labor, land, water, and energy used in its production and transportation.
- Improved Food Access: Safe and nutritious food could be better utilized to improve food access in our communities.
